Mill 72 Bake Shop & Café plans to expand its reach from Manheim into Lebanon County.
The café and bake shop will open at 1784 Quentin Road in North Cornwall Township in the spring.
Mill 72 is family owned and operated by the Miller family — parents Melanie and Brian and their four daughters Taylor, Morgan, McKayla and Payton. Mill 72’s name comes from the family’s last name and the fact that the café’s flagship location is along Route 72 in Manheim.
Melanie Miller said the transformation of the 5,000-square-foot former Hallmark store in the shopping center that’s anchored by Giant Foods is underway.
“We’re super excited to serve the Lebanon area. We’re grateful for the warm welcome we’ve received so far,” she said.
Miller said her family began attending a nearby church about three years ago.
“We became part of the church and fell in love with the area and Lebanon,” she explained, “We would pass by the old Hallmark store, and liked the location. There’s a lot of development happening in the area right now, and it’s along a well-traveled road.”
Mill 72’s flagship location at 45 N. Main St., Manheim, opened in February 2019. It’s located at the REO Manheim Marketplace in downtown Manheim. A second location launched in May 2022 at 2100 Town Square (Pleasant View Communities), Manheim. The retirement community location has a streamlined menu of the offerings in downtown Manheim.
Miller said Mill 72 offers “great coffee and great food from a friendly team in a bright cozy atmosphere.”
The downtown Manheim location is one of several businesses that are housed in a historic building complex. It had housed a local potato chip maker as well as one of Manheim’s oldest hotels. But the REO Manheim Marketplace takes its name from the fact that it was a former auto and truck dealership for REO vehicles. Mill 72 is housed in the former showroom for the dealership, and the refinished maple flooring is original to the building.
“The history of the building gives our café some of its character. While we don’t have that to build on in our Lebanon café, it is a blank canvas that allows us to create something that still has the cozy atmosphere and space for people to connect,” Miller said.
Mill 72’s menu features breakfast and lunch items including baked oatmeal, soups, salads and sandwiches as well as sweet treats such as cupcakes, French macarons, cream puffs, and whoopie pies. Drinks include coffees, espresso, teas and cocoa (hot or frozen). Miller said while the drink menu will be the same, the food menu may vary slightly.
Miller’s daughter, Morgan (Miller) Hostetter, is Mill 72’s lead baker. She and husband Nate live near the new Lebanon location.
“Morgan will be in Lebanon most of the time,” Miller said. She anticipates Mill 72’s new location will employ 17 to 24 people in both full-time and part-time positions.
