Update 1/12: PennDOT said that the work has been rescheduled to Friday, Jan. 13, due to rain and fog.
A PennDOT contractor will perform soil remediation along I-81 in Swatara Township on Thursday, Jan. 12.
The contractor will be cleaning up a diesel fuel spill along southbound I-81 about two miles north of Exit 90 (Route 72/Lebanon).
A PennDOT spokesperson said that the cleanup is likely in relation to a disabled vehicle on Jan. 3 that leaked diesel fuel on the highway. That incident was reported by Pennsylvania State Police to PennDOT and further details were not immediately available.
Cleanup was originally scheduled for Jan. 5 but got rescheduled due to rain. Weather permitting, work will begin around 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, and will be completed by the end of the day. While work is ongoing, the left lane of southbound I-81 will be closed.
PennDOT said that motorists should expect minor delays and drive with caution as they watch for slow-moving traffic.
