The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has released its schedule for trout stocking ahead of the state’s April 1 opening day of trout season.

This year’s Mentored Youth Trout Fishing Day is scheduled for March 25, a week before general opening. On this day, youth will be able to fish with their adult mentors. Get your license here.

“While many anglers still have their rods and tackle boxes stored away for the winter, the release of our trout stocking schedule is always highly anticipated and is a reminder that spring fishing opportunities are just around the corner,” said Brian Wisner, director of the PFBC Bureau of Hatcheries, in a press release.

“This schedule is the blueprint we use as we build a world-class stocked trout fishery in all corners of the Commonwealth over the next several weeks.”

PFBC will stock approximately 3.2 million adult trout this year. Another million trout will be stocked in public waters by sportsmen’s clubs and other groups.

The Quittapahilla is also included in the Keystone Select Stocked Trout Waters program, which means the stream will be stocked in part with large, 14-inch to 20-inch trout. These large trout will be stocked at a rate of 175 to 225 per mile of stream, which the PFBC says is comparable to the numbers of similarly sized fish in Pennsylvania’s best wild trout waters

All fish are from the Pleasant Gap hatchery unless otherwise noted. More information available on the state’s adult trout stocking by county website.
