North Lebanon Police Department officer Gregory Behney was unanimously promoted to sergeant detective and commended by the North Lebanon Board of Supervisors at their March 20 meeting for his work on a robbery earlier this month.

Behney was on patrol March 14 when he heard of a robbery in progress at the Turkey Hill at 1201 W. Maple St.

He stopped a suspect, conducted an investigation, and took the suspect into custody after finding him to be responsible for the robbery.

NLPD Chief of Police Tim Knight commended Behney for his prompt response to the robbery.

Knight also noted Behney’s role in getting a confession for five catalytic converter thefts from Brightbill Buses, as well as several other thefts in the county, this February.

Chairman Ed Brensinger said that based on the board’s interviews for the sergeant detective position, Behney was their top choice.

“I think he’s been doing an outstanding job even before he was a detective,” said Brensinger. “Hopefully he’ll continue that; he’s handled a lot of duties that a detective would handle in the past, so he did have quite a bit of experience.”

North Lebanon supervisors meet at the township municipal building the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. The meetings are open to the public and do not require prior registration.
