A Lebanon man was fatally shot Wednesday morning in what police say was an argument that escalated into violence.

The shooting victim was identified as 33-year-old Thomas Vance, according to a press release from Lebanon city police on Crimewatch.

According to the police statement, officers were dispatched to the 0-100 block of Jones Street at about 8 a.m. Wednesday. They arrived to find a man with a gunshot wound on the scene.

The wounded man was transported to a Dauphin County medical facility, where he died from his injuries, the report said.

Police said a second subject who had remained on the scene was taken into custody without incident.

According to their investigation, police said the incident "began as a verbal altercation and escalated."

Police reviewed several video sources of the incident and interviewed witnesses, the report said. The firearm believed to be used in the incident was recovered by police at the scene.

Both parties involved in the incident were known to each other, police noted, stating the shooting "was not a random act of gun violence."

The case is being reviewed by the Lebanon County District Attorney's Office as a homicide.
