Pennsylvania historian Rich Wagner will be presenting a talk 1:30pm next Sunday 9/16 at the Lebanon County Historical Society about our area’s heritage with beer.

The county has been brewing beer on record since colonial times, when Pennsylvania Dutch farmers might have had small brew houses or malt houses. Wagner looks at all this and more in the talk, which you can see here as submitted to the American Breweriana Journal.

Expect to see beautiful Sanborn maps of Lebanon, vintage photos, and lots of other brewery memorabilia/artifacts. Plus a couple of beer brokers who might make a good HBO series at some point.

I live near 13th and Callowhill in Philadelphia, so I get a kick out of this historic Lebanon Brewing ad.

The talk is sponsored by Rotunda Brewing and Snitz Creek. It doesn’t look like they’ll be serving drinks during the lecture portion, but you can pop across the street for a Blueberry Cream Ale afterwards. Attendees will receive coupons for both breweries.

Wagner has a diploma in brewing technology from the famous Siebel Institute in Chicago, and has worked at a number of Philadelphia area breweries.

The event is free and open to the public.
