Lebanon County is in full holiday swing, and several properties around the area are showing off elaborate displays of Christmas decorations.

At White’s Holiday Show at the intersection of Miller and Cherry Streets in Lebanon, visitors can expect to see over 10,000 pixel and LED lights and over 20 Christmas props. The display is synchronized to a 45-minute music show, accessible by tuning your radio to 88.5 FM.

The show runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends until January 2nd. Check out some pictures from the show below:

The display at Darrel Moyer’s house at 117 West Penn Ave in Cleona includes over 20,000 lights and a musically synchronized display (visitors should tune in to 87.9 FM on the radio to “hear” the lights in action).

In addition to over 150 Blowmold figurines and a pathway that winds through the “North Pole,” “Candy Lane,” and “Christmas Town,” this year’s display features new LED-lit wreathes and even a special mailbox out front, which serves only one recipient: Santa Claus himself.

Barring bad weather, the lights are on from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every night until New Year’s Day. Visitors are encouraged to bring along letters to Santa for “mailing” and to consider donating to the 4 Diamonds fund, which will have a donation box out front. If you miss this display, keep an eye out for Moyer’s January Winter display, which is currently being planned.

Christmas light displays have a long history in Lebanon, with references to the Bon Ton’s “myriad of Christmas lights” found in newspapers as early as 1914. The practice expanded in the 1930s, with the Lebanon Electric Company installing curb lights in downtown Lebanon for the month of December.

The Daily News, 8 Dec. 1932.

In a brilliant marketing move, the Electric League of Lebanon hosted a Christmas lights decorating contest in 1932, offering up several prizes for the best decorated business places and homes. Lebanon’s light displays were impressive enough that airplane tours of the area taking off from Fredericksburg in the late 1940s touted them as a feature of the tour.

The elaborate displays of the “King of Lights,” Frank Weihrauch Jr., were a staple of Lebanon’s holiday season for many years.
