Although movement on the site appears to be progressing fast, Target is not yet ready to announce an opening date for its new Lebanon store, except to say that it’s still planned for later this year.
“We’re excited to bring an easy, safe and convenient shopping experience to new guests in the Lebanon community with this new Target store,” a Target spokesperson, who asked not to be identified by name, said in response to an enquiry from LebTown.
However, the spokesperson declined to offer further details on a rough timing for opening date or when jobs would be posted.
The store – Lebanon County’s first Target – will be located in the former Kmart property at 1745 Quentin Road. The Minneapolis-based retailer acquired the North Cornwall Township property through a $5 million transaction at the end of June 2021.
The 117,200-square-foot store sits on a 15.35-acre lot, surrounded by large surface parking lots. Target will be using the entire store.
A crane that’s been on the site in recent weeks caused additional local chatter about the store and prompted LebTown to reach out for a status update.
The spokesperson said that Target will share more details, “including how the shopping experience will be tailored to serve local guests and the grand opening date,” sometime closer to that mysterious opening date.
The Kmart closed in early 2020 as part of a nationwide shuttering of the former big box behemoth, which had 2,486 stores at its peak in the 1990s. It was subsequently used as a Spirit Halloween location in fall 2020 and then served as the county’s mass vaccination site in early 2021.
