PennDOT announced that a box culvert replacement on Route 419 project will begin on April 10, weather permitting.

The box culvert bridge is located just west of Distillery Road in Heidelberg Township.

While work is ongoing, Route 419 will be closed near the structure, and PennDOT said that it will have a detour in place using State Drive, Evergreen Road, and Route 897, adding about 2.5 miles to the normally 4-mile distance between Route 419 at Route 897 and Route 419 at State Drive.

PennDOT said that the project is expected to be completed by Nov. 16, but did not specify whether motorists should expect the detour to be in place for that entire duration.

PennDOT said that Lobar Site Development Corp. of Dillsburg is the prime contractor on the approximately $800,000 project.
