Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania’s only live-fire and maneuver military base, will host a field training exercise for Homeland Security Investigations Rapid Response Teams on April 25.

According to a press release, the exercise will bring together teams from New York, Newark, and Boston to improve joint deployment capabilities during natural and manmade disasters or other emergency situations. The exercise will focus on operating in austere or degraded environments, which may lack access to clean water, electricity, or medical facilities.

Training activities will include helicopter introduction, woodland search and rescue, HAZMAT, land navigation, mobile command center operations, communications, utility task vehicle (UTV) operations, urban search and rescue, rotary wing insertion, and UTV infiltration.

HSI RRT members are trained to deploy nationwide to support recovery efforts in disaster situations where law enforcement and humanitarian assistance may be necessary. The Fort Indiantown Gap training facility, located in northern Lebanon County, accommodates close to 1 million training man days annually, making it the largest National Guard training facility in the nation.

HSI, the principal investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security, investigates transnational crime and threats. With a workforce of over 10,400 employees, including more than 6,800 special agents, HSI maintains a presence in 225 U.S. cities and 93 overseas locations in 56 countries.
